May 14, 2015 - Washington, DC - The United States-Kurdistan Business Council (USKBC) in partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce hosted for the American business community a private briefing with President of the Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani and senior Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials travelling with him to the US.
Thomas Schmitt, a senior executive with USKBC founding board member Hunt, welcomed President Barzani and thanked him for the opportunity to hear about the latest developments from the Kurdistan region and Iraq.
The US business community and USKBC members in particular have through significant investment contributed to Kurdistan’s development over the past decade. The USKBC was also established to ensure that US companies get a good return on their investment in the region. The companies have had a good partner in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) toward that end.
President Barzani provided detail about the fight against ISIS since last year and the successes of Kurdish forces in those battles. He thanked the US Government for its military support of the Kurdistan region and acknowledged American-Kurdish military cooperation in the war against ISIS.
President Barzani also thanked the US companies whom he met for their commitment to Kurdistan’s development and encouraged them all to stay the course during the challenges caused by the fight against ISIS and the humanitarian crisis in the region that has resulted from it.
Following the private meeting with President Barzani, the USKBC co-sponsored a reception for the senior Kurdistan delegation that was attended by over two hundred guests and friends.
