WASHINGTON— February 27, 2012— Recognizing Iraqi Kurdistan's economic potential, leading U.S. CEOs have launched the U.S.-Kurdistan Business Council (USKBC), a members-driven trade association aimed at facilitating greater trade and commerce between U.S. companies and the Kurdistan Region.
“The Kurdistan Region is an excellent place to do business,” said Jeanne Phillips, Senior Vice President at Hunt Consolidated, a USKBC board member.
With one of the most liberal investment laws in the Middle East, the Kurdistan Region presents untapped business opportunities and an excellent gateway to the rest of Iraq due to its security and economic growth. Rapid development in the region has contributed to a need for infrastructure and services across all sectors.
From tourism to manufacturing, to agriculture and transportation, Iraqi Kurdistan is ready for U.S. corporations to play a bigger role in its economic future. This will both help build the region’s technical and human capacities, as well as buoy the economic base and stability for all of Iraq.
“The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is very pleased and proud to recognize the launching of the USKBC,” Qubad Talabani, the KRG Representative to the U.S., said. “I expect this U.S. trade group will provide American companies with a new and important platform to do business in Iraqi Kurdistan.”
